When Pikachu was announced in 2019, I didn't think that they would be releasing a different doll each year. But after the second release I realized they were releasing a doll corresponding to the zodiac. Pikachu for the year of the rat 2020, Miltank for year of the cow 2021...

But they have also released Eevee which is not part of the zodiac. I'm guessing Eevee was chosen and released due to its popularity.
